Summer is just around the corner. I know it can be challenging to keep your children entertained over the long summer break.

I made a list of some of the best outdoor kid activities that are perfect for the summertime. (Excluding going to the pool or the beach.) Many of them are fun for the whole family!

  • Bike rides. Biking with your kids is a fun summertime adventure and a great way to incorporate some physical activity.
  • Car wash. I loved washing our cars as a kid! Grab some sponges, soap, a bucket and turn on the hose for a good time.
  • Homemade creamsicles. Everyone loves to eat ice cream on a hot summer day. Use popsicles molds, vanilla ice cream and orange juice to make this yummy snack.
  • Picnic at the park. Pack up lunch in a picnic basket and grab a picnic blanket. This is a great way to spend time together as a family.
  • Sidewalk chalk. There are a number of games you can create with sidewalk chalk, such as hopscotch. Purchase a big box of sidewalk chalk and let your kids color the driveway or sidewalks.
  • Shaving cream finger paint. Find a large surface outside and cover it with shaving cream. Put in a few drops of food coloring and let the kids mix the colors with their hands.
  • Driveway toy car race. Draw start and finish lines with sidewalk chalk. Then grab any type of toy car and let the races begin!
  • Water balloons. Now it’s so easy to fill up a bunch of water balloons with Bunch O Balloons instant water balloons. Add in a whiffle ball bat if you want to play baseball with a splash!
  • Paint rocks. Does your kid love to pick up rocks? This is the perfect activity where they can search for the perfect rock to paint. The whole family can have fun painting designs on rocks.
  • Strawberry picking. A quick online search can help you find a local farm that will let you go and pick your own strawberries for a small entrance fee.
  • Run in the sprinkler. Turn on a fun sprinkler for a quick and easy way to cool down on a hot summer day.
  • Bubbles. My kid loves bubbles! You can purchase a bubble machine or bubble gun. My toddler loves to run after the bubbles and pop them. Bubbles are always an easy way to have fun outside.

Summer is the best time of year to get out and breathe some fresh air. Soak up the sun and play in the water. There are so many benefits to your kids spending quality time with their family, so this is the perfect chance to do that!
